Hey guys, so i was looking online, about to buy my first motorcycle and came across a site that talked about how in the UK you can buy a 600cc sportbike and get the horsepower restricted to under 33bhp. I am just wondering if there is a place to get one of those restriction kits here in the states, instead of buying a smaller bike to learn with, and upgrading later.

As I answered another poster earlier that seems to defy logic. It's sort of like hiring a 350lb. bodyguard and putting shackles on him, when actually a 150lb. Ninja Warrior would be more effective.
That seems like an interesting idea to avoid having to upgrade bikes. I don't know anyone in the US that sells stuff like that. I believe they are motor specific kits and are in the $500 range because of some legality paper work required to own one (and practically need becuase very few bikes produce that little of hp than smaller cc street bikes) in the UK. Just find a cheap used 250cc bike (even a 20 year old one will be fine) and upgrade to another larger bike. You can always find used bikes in the classifieds and craigslist.org with low miles and sometimes below book value because someone bought it, never really rode it and just wants to get rid of it. I think this would be easier than trying to track down a restritor kit. You can also a find and under powered 600cc sport tourer/older crotch rocket or an entry level 500cc bike that's still easy to learn on but plenty of power to get on the highway and hold onto for a few years before wanting more power.
You can try the kawsaki ninja 500, suzuki katana 600, yamaha seca II 600, kawasaki vulcan 500, honda shadow 600, buell blast 500, there's others that can fit the bill
usually the trade off is much better mpg on these underpowered bikes
thats stupid lol just dont over accelerate genius just like a car. no one jumps in for the first time and punchs it to 100mph. its the throttle dont open it up and your gonna be just fine. p.s. when you get on and over rev it like a dummy dont hang on to the throttle with your legs dragging. let it go lol
