what is the difference between .com .net and .gov?

I can pretty much tell what .gov means. It seams it's a government site but and if I am right then what is the difference between .com and .net and is there any more I should be aware of

Just S Guy is wrong. .com means 'commercial', not 'community'.

.org means 'organization', such as 'pbs.org'.

Most countries have their own 'dot'. (Canada is '.ca'.)

.gov is limited to official government websites ONLY.

There classifications of sites. There just a way to organize them. .com is community .net is network. Theres a list on Wikipedia uhhh... here theres a shot lit on the right. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generic_top-level_domain
