XBox 360 vs. PS3? Which is better & why?

I am about to buy either an XBox 360 or Play Station 3, but I honestly don't know much about either one. From the ones I saw, the XBox 360 is a little cheaper in price. But other than that, I didn't see much of a difference, even in the games for each.
And FYI, if this helps, I like sports games the most and some adventure-type games. And, I will probably never go online and play, so that shouldn't be of concern.
Thanks

In my opinion, you should buy a 360. The xbox 360 has just as much, or even more games on it including the best.........HALO!!!! If your in to cod or gears this also has the game titles such as those. Last time I checked, the ps3 was hacked. The xbox 360 is also cheaper. If your wondering about popularity from the people choice on google: ps3:93,900,000 results XBOX 360:109,000,000 results! The choice is obvious my friend. Most of those who play ps3 are little kids, have no sense of video games, or have never tried something else. Xbox 360 dude:) There is no use in getting both, as some might state they have both. That is just unnecessary.

What I like MOST about the Xbox 360:
1) More people have it. In other words, all my friends, family and coworkers have Xbox 360s. Which also means if I want to play online with them, I have to use my Xbox, which is also a con for me. (I'd rather use my PS3 because of the better graphics and lighter/smaller controller).
2) I can download games, updates and demos in the background, even with the Xbox turned off. So I can start a download and go to bed without leaving the box on all night. (The PS3 cant do this)
3) When I download a game (full or demo), I can play it immediately. On the PS3, you have to download it (which could take over an hour), then install it (which could take another 10-30+ minutes), at which time your PS3 is unusable until it completes.
4) My late generation Xbox elite has lasted longer then my first generation PS3 (surprisingly)
5) It doubles as a Media Center extender. I have a PC that records shows for me in Media Center (like a Tivo but no monthly fees). I can access these shows and watch live TV over the network via my Xbox. This is a VERY cool and under-talked about feature. And most people with a Windows PC can do this; look it up.
6) The console and games (new and used) are cheaper than the PS3.

It really ends up being six of one half dozen of the other between the consoles at this point.
Both have a large number of bisecting game libraries. Both have crappy motion controlled add-ons with do nothing but make you question why you go ti in the first place. Both will do the same thing, play your games.

Personally I used my PS3 instead of my Xbox for most things because I like the controller better and it has a built in Blu-ray player. So basically esthetics. PSN also allows for free online play which Xbox has more online players and more elite competition.

If you are trying to decided, first check what your friends have and use (this is probably should be the biggest factor). If they swing one way or another then go with them. That way you will be able to play online with them. After that look for exclusives like Fable for the 360 or Uncharted for the PS3 and figure out if you want to play any of those type of games. Like I said before most games are on both consoles so it is only a handful that you really need to look at.

For you I would recommend a PS3 just on the fact you will probably never go online and play.

If you get an xbox and don't pay for xbox live, you won't get the most out of the system. Depending on what country you live the 360 has all kinds of app like; youtube, netflix, zune, and much more. xbox 360 comes with a free one month gold membership so you could try out xbox live.

PS3 has free online gaming so if you decide to play online at least you don't have to pay for it but it does not have different apps like the 360. Has high-definition optical disc format and Blu-ray Disc as storage medium.

But you also have to take in consideration the console exclusive games. EX: xbox has games like gears of war and the halo series while PS3 has games like uncharted and killzone. I think both systems are great for sports games.

Both systems are great but its your money not mine.

Ps3 all the way, the exclusives are wayyy better than xbox. Ps3 got god of war 1 2 and 3, house of the dead overkill, infamous and mannyyyyyy moree! And just in case ps3 online is free all the time so no need to take money out ur pocket. I strongly reccomend getting a playstation 3. If you get a 360 all its goin to do is get a red ring within the next year, ps2 can last for up to 6 years or even longer
