XBox 360 vs. PS3? Which is better & why?
I am about to buy either an XBox 360 or Play Station 3, but I honestly don't know much about either one. From the ones I saw, the XBox 360 is a little cheaper in price. But other than that, I didn't see much of a difference, even in the games for each.
And FYI, if this helps, I like sports games the most and some adventure-type games. And, I will probably never go online and play, so that shouldn't be of concern.
Thanks

In my opinion, you should buy a 360. The xbox 360 has just as much, or even more games on it including the best.........HALO!!!! If your in to cod or gears this also has the game titles such as those. Last time I checked, the ps3 was hacked. The xbox 360 is also cheaper. If your wondering about popularity from the people choice on google: ps3:93,900,000 results XBOX 360:109,000,000 results! The choice is obvious my friend. Most of those who play ps3 are little kids, have no sense of video games, or have never tried something else. Xbox 360 dude:) There is no use in getting both, as some might state they have both. That is just unnecessary.

What I like MOST about the Xbox 360:
1) More people have it. In other words, all my friends, family and coworkers have Xbox 360s. Which also means if I want to play online with them, I have to use my Xbox, which is also a con for me. (I'd rather use my PS3 because of the better graphics and lighter/smaller controller).
2) I can download games, updates and demos in the background, even with the Xbox turned off. So I can start a download and go to bed without leaving the box on all night. (The PS3 cant do this)
3) When I download a game (full or demo), I can play it immediately. On the PS3, you have to download it (which could take over an hour), then install it (which could take another 10-30+ minutes), at which time your PS3 is unusable until it completes.
4) My late generation Xbox elite has lasted longer then my first generation PS3 (surprisingly)
5) It doubles as a Media Center extender. I have a PC that records shows for me in Media Center (like a Tivo but no monthly fees). I can access these shows and watch live TV over the network via my Xbox. This is a VERY cool and under-talked about feature. And most people with a Windows PC can do this; look it up.
6) The console and games (new and used) are cheaper than the PS3.

It really ends up being six of one half dozen of the other between the consoles at this point.
Both have a large number of bisecting game libraries. Both have crappy motion controlled add-ons with do nothing but make you question why you go ti in the first place. Both will do the same thing, play your games.
Personally I used my PS3 instead of my Xbox for most things because I like the controller better and it has a built in Blu-ray player. So basically esthetics. PSN also allows for free online play which Xbox has more online players and more elite competition.
If you are trying to decided, first check what your friends have and use (this is probably should be the biggest factor). If they swing one way or another then go with them. That way you will be able to play online with them. After that look for exclusives like Fable for the 360 or Uncharted for the PS3 and figure out if you want to play any of those type of games. Like I said before most games are on both consoles so it is only a handful that you really need to look at.

For you I would recommend a PS3 just on the fact you will probably never go online and play.
If you get an xbox and don't pay for xbox live, you won't get the most out of the system. Depending on what country you live the 360 has all kinds of app like; youtube, netflix, zune, and much more. xbox 360 comes with a free one month gold membership so you could try out xbox live.
PS3 has free online gaming so if you decide to play online at least you don't have to pay for it but it does not have different apps like the 360. Has high-definition optical disc format and Blu-ray Disc as storage medium.
But you also have to take in consideration the console exclusive games. EX: xbox has games like gears of war and the halo series while PS3 has games like uncharted and killzone. I think both systems are great for sports games.
Both systems are great but its your money not mine.

Ps3 all the way, the exclusives are wayyy better than xbox. Ps3 got god of war 1 2 and 3, house of the dead overkill, infamous and mannyyyyyy moree! And just in case ps3 online is free all the time so no need to take money out ur pocket. I strongly reccomend getting a playstation 3. If you get a 360 all its goin to do is get a red ring within the next year, ps2 can last for up to 6 years or even longer

Personally I prefer xbox 360, I've had both ps3 and xbox 360,
Games: I think xbox 360 has better choice of games, although I do enjoy some ps3 exclusives like infamous, uncharted and lbp, but I do think xbox exclusives are more enjoyable (gears of war 3 is an awesome xbox 360 exclusive) and xbox 360 has more exclusives than ps3. My favorite xbox exclusives are: gears of war 3, left for dead, halo, too human, fable 2 and 3 and splinter cell conviction.
Online: ps3 has free online, xbox 360 you can get a membership for online, I know you said you wasn't bothered about online but xbox live is worth the money, there's much more stuff to download on xbox live than psn (playstaion network) and there's more options on xbox live, you can watch sky and other tv channels if you buy a membership.
Playstaion is abit boring online, you can watch youtube on both systems if you are online.
Graphics: people that say ps3 have better graphics chat ****, yes ps3 has bluray but who cares? The graphics on xbox 360 are amazing, compared to ps3.
Price: ps3 cost more than xbox 360, although xbox 360 probably adds up too more money when you buy the accessories ( play and charge kit, membership ect) but its well worth it.
Overall: xbox 360 beats ps3 *** by far, I really do recommend buying the xbox 360, people who say xbox 360 is **** and ps3 is better probably never even played xbox 360 because if they had they would prefer xbox 360 soo much more! I think ps3 is for bassic gamers and xbox 360 is for more hardcore gamers to be honest!
Hope this helped

Quality wise PS3 is better because it has more processors and is much faster and also has a blu-ray drive so you can watch Blu-Ray films but Xbox 360 is better for online becuase it is much better quality and is updated more and has better online feautures. But xbox and ps3 have certain games available on only that console like
Xbox: Halo, Gears of War and many more ect
Ps3: Killzone, little big planet and many more
Example: Grand theft auto had to be made smaller on the xbox because the xbox lacks the prosecors and on ps3 it was better quality and the map was bigger
But if your online definatly go for Xbox 360 BUT ps3 has PSN (playstation network) and is free
Also ps3 can go up to 7 players and has a blu-ray drive
Source(s): I have 4 ps3's 1 Xbox 360 i fix Ps3's :) - Anonymous9 years ago
I personally think it boils down to what more of your friends play. At least that was my choice in deciding. However, if you are not going to play online much then you have to look at whether or not you will want a blue-ray player too. That is one of my favorite features. Overall they are pretty close. If you ever come to the point where you want to play online, the free PSN is also a nice option. The popular thing is probably the xbox but I have love for the playstation as well. Pretty much boils down to your choice in features. Hope this helps.

the ps3 has better exclusive games but i think the 360 is better just because of the community.
and now that i just read your full question description i think you should get ps3, since you have to pay for online gameplay with xbox and your not going to play online often you should get ps3 because there online is free for when ever you when you want to play online. and they have every game 360 has except for there exclusives like gears of war.

it has a good set of games both in sports and adventure
and its controller is excellent
