What game am I talking about?
It was a war game on PC (floppy disk) and you scale through different climates. When a soldier dies, I think a cross emerges. I believe it had the word "Command" in the title of the game.

sounds to me like a game that doesn't have command in the title, but i'll make the obvious my first guess, the classic, command and conquer?
what i think it might be was this old classic, not really a wargame, but i still hold fondness for it
