Swimming pool pump problem!?

Pump came on this morning pumping only air. Yesterday, pressure was 10 psi; today it's 3 psi. Replaced the big filter. Cleaned 2 basket filters. Took motor off and cleaned a few bits of grass from the pump impeller. Reassembled with gasket dressing on all gaskets. Filled primer/basket filter with water. No apparent leaks. Pool is full; Skimmer sump is full and clean. It's a Hayward pump; 1.5 HP; can't read model number. It's just a 7500 gallon pool. Motor is running but the pump won't prime. Any ideas on what I should try next?

it sounds like you have a seal leak from the basket filter and thats why it will not prime check the rubber gaskets on the lids and apply a silcone grease try it

Pool Pump Problems

Did you see water in the clear plastic bubble top that is in front of the pump?It should be full, and that's the only thing I could suggest: turn off the power, break the connection on top and fill with water, then put top back on. Hit the switch and cross your fingers. When it was apart did you actually move the impeller, it might be seized against junk in the pump or the only other choice is that the motor is running but impeller might need replacement. I am sure you have already checked to be sure all the valves that return the water to the pool are open and in the correct position. Watch this youtube video about accessing the impeller assembly and how to break the connection:

I presently have a 3 pump system pool. 1 for pool water(1.5 HP), 1 for pop up cleaning system (1HP) and 1 for water fall feature (1HP). I am being told by a pool repairman that I could save more $ if I keep using the 3 pumps than if I replace with a new VSP (Pentair or Hayward). I am getting confused!!! Anyone knows what could be the best alternative???

If its pumping air you know that the motor on the pump is good and the impeller is good. You either have air in the system from when you cleaned everything or a faulty gasket. There should be a clear plastic cover on the top of the main strainer. If there is you should see no air, just water. And if you see just water, I would double check the work you did on the impeller.
