What is your first thought when the doctor says "I'm sorry,.."?

Complications

Her world softly, silently
Implodes, as the import of
The doctor's words, delivered in
Quietly apologetic tones, echoes
Down the thousand mile
Corridor that has opened
In her breast. Images of
Wedding day dances and
Cinema trips, holidays by
The sea and the time they
Got caught in a cloudburst
While walking in the hills.
A nurse hovers in the
Background, holding a board
For the doctor to sign
As all around, unheard, the hospital
Hums, buzzes and clatters
Unknowing and busy while
She falls forever.

Hi, Foggy! Good to see you again.
Yes, I've often wondered that.
How, after receiving such news,
you look around you, and everyone is busy
doing their routine things and you can't believe how they can do that,
when your world just stopped.
Suddenly, everything looks completely different.

You captured it beautifully.

My doctors generally have laid it on the line for me. I haven't had that much bad news, and everything I've had has been treatable.

But if a doctor ever told me, "I'm sorry," I would wait for a "but" and then decide what I should do.

I'm 71 years old and life is a terminal condition. I am grateful for every year I've been given and for every year I will be given.

A very graphic write and definitely something to think about. Thanks for posting.

The tone of your poem is one of anguish , but a valid point through out .
life just goes on in every ones world, how can people be enjoying life out side this room .
when all around me the Wall's have just crumbled in , there must be a charm a whispered promise
that everything is going to be ok .. we drag at are oars with aching arms, God help us fight there must be a way to win ... Never give in.

Excellent poetry thank you

One of my closet life long friends
is facing this now at 80 years old,
Cancer like death knows no age.
Your pen is touching, as life goes on
around and without us.
Do hope this pen is just an observation,
if not, God be with your loved one.

WOW! This is definitely amazing! I saw every bit of it! When the Doctor says "I'm Sorry,..." I think that you are about to receive a huge painful disappointment and some horrible news.
