Being a mother to a teen, the answer would be having too much too soon and not learning the true value of hard work. everything in their lives are at their finger tips, if they could they wouldn't have to get up and do anything. The answer is very simple do less for them and let teach them to do the fishing.
as the saying goes. Give a man fish and he will eat for a day, teach him to fish and eats for a life time.
Our children have no aspirations to be better than their parents as we did simply because they have far too much. They have no idea how to live without technology it has always been there.

A lack of parental guidance and discipline from the time a baby is brought home from the hospital. The Bible teaches us to bring up a child in the ways of the Lord.

Eph. 6:1-4 Children, obey your parents IN THE LORD, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment WITH PROMISE: 3 “THAT IT MAY BE WELL WITH YOU AND YOU MAY LIVE LONG ON THE EARTH.

4 And you, FATHERS, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the 'training' (disciplinarian instruction) and 'admonition' (warning-put to mind) of the Lord.

If parents are not obeying the Lord themselves and allowing their children to rear themselves, then what can society expect?

I cannot 'fix' the problem ... only God can do that by first calling an individual and him/her accepting His Son as their Savior ... then God can work in that individuals heart and bring about a change.

Going from tutoring to being mature

In 1 Peter 2:2 Peter would chastened believers tor spiritually having the maturity of babies drinking milk, he admonished them to eat of the meat of the word

In Galations 3:24, Paul wrote, "So that the law is become our tutor to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith".

Law and structure are the tutor of young people, but if there is a rebellion or neglect for rules and structure; they just don't ever get to live maturely, be trusted, or walk in The Spirit.

So to, when we're adults, if we're treated with children's tutoring, well never rise above.

Man made rules applied to adults are control issues that some adults apply to other adults; to apply baseless children's rules to adults. Col. 2:20 20 If you have died with Christ to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as, "Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!" (which all refer to things destined to perish with the using)-- in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men? These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence.

I think the biggest problem is the sexualization of our youth. People are so insecure, immature and fake these days

Teenagers are like stray animals from their barn.
