POND QUESTION...NEED HELP PLEASE?

I have had a slider for 40 yrs and adopted 4 others in the last 10 yrs and never had problems with my pond. In the last yr the water becomes so acidic. I live right by a 16 lane freeway ( 405 and the 5) and 4 lane road...besides killing my lungs with crap off the freeways blowing towards my home....could it be the tire dust and just pollution from the freeway doing this to my pond ? I have a 500 gal pond for 5 turtles 7" in diameter...I buy 100 fish a week, but even with all the chemicals that ''I have ALWAYS ' used the fish get fin rot and fuzzy within 1 hr and die off and eaten by the turtles. I test the water and its ORANGE... thats not even on the PH color chart. I have a pondmaster 2000, fountain, heaters and rep lamps for that time of day the pond is not in the sun. I am truly baffled. I do a water change now every month. Evebn after the water change its still ''orange'' on the color chart....I have no plants in the pond cause they eat them, even though they get grapes and leafy greens every other day. I need to move!!! I hate putting any chemicals in the water cause yes it is not good for them....100 fish in 500 is not realy that much. I use to have at least 150 plus at all times and NEVER had any problems....must be the crap off the freeway..thanks again all.

For sure it's a yes i'm afraid - look at the increase in road traffic over the last 40 years

This is the same reason that it is virtually impossible to use rainwater for the aquarium as it is just filled with pollution - The only idea I have is if it would be possible to build a shelter over the pond like a gazebo :)

Tried changing more water?

Going acidic is usually a symptom of excess Organic waste building up in the water. You are throwing 100 feeders a week in there, that's a lot of waste being produced. The fish getting sick and dying are also consistent with organically polluted water. The turtles, being air breathers can survive in water that will kill fish, but it's not doing their health any good.

It's possible the traffic is also contributing, but even so, changing the water is going to help there too.

Hello I have been doing internet research trying to find a home for a 15 year old female red eared slider. I would really love her to be in a pond environment and be able to bask. I rescued her from a classroom where she was living in a small tank with poopy water :( I have had her for two years but I feel bad that I don't have all the resources that she needs and I feel she is unhappy. She has a tank and I take her out to bask in the sun but I know she is unhappy living indoors in my apartment and I just want her to be in a better environment. Please let me know if you would be interested or if you had any information on where I could take her and she would be safe, happy, and cared for. Thank you so much.
