Lawn newly seeded. How do I keep from having to water all day?

I just had my lawn seeded. All prep and seeding was done professionally. I was told to water twice a day to keep the surface moist. Well, I've been watering and just a few hours later it looks like the surface of my lawn is dry. So, I water again and still, my lawn doesn't "seem" to be staying moist on the top. I live in Oklahoma. It's windy and now it's getting warm, mid eighties this week. It takes about 3 hours to water my entire lawn. So it seems like just when I'm finished watering, where I first started watering already looks like it's drying out. Am I doing something wrong or is twice a day watering enough?

Every region has unique requirements. Water early in the morning and water deeply. Set hose end water sprayers in your yard. Let the ground become saturated then move the sprayer to another area.

I live in south Louisiana and wind can be more harmful than hot sun. It sucks the moisture out of the soil.

Once a day or twice a day deep watering is always better. The roots will grow deeper and retain moisture longer than with frequent, shallow watering.

Check with your County Agent for information specific to your region.

Maybe you should consider a layer of straw. That will shade the seeds from the hot sun and help to retain the moisture.

When you water, be sure to water long enough so that the top 1" of soil is moist. Twice a day should be sufficient. First about 5:30 AM and then again about 7:30 PM. The seeds themselves will hold on to moisture if you are watering enough each time.
