one liter of HCl 0.01 M is dissolved in a million liters of pure water, what is the pH of this final solution?

somebody says PH=8 as it is at the end HCl 10^-8 M
but it can get basic by adding acid

0.01M = 10^-2 WHEN IT IS DISSOLVED IN 10^6 LITRES OFWATER THEN
[H+] = 10^2/10^6 = 10^-8
note------------- now we have to take into consideration the [H+] concentration of water '
i. e. total [H+] = 10^-8+ 10^-7
= 10^-8[1+10]
= 11x10^-8
so pH = - log[11x10^-8]
= 8 - log11
= 8 - 1.041 = 6.958 ANWER [ it is 100% correct .]
so the solution is acidic . [ pH< 7 so acidic ]

First you must to find the attention of HCl M=moles/liters M=2/1 M=1 pH=-log([H+]) when you consider that all the HCl will dissociate, you have the same attention of H+ as you do for HCl so pH=-log(2) pH=-.301 it is bad on account that that's how pH is measure thoratically nearly, that would no longer be the answer
