What plants are safe for kids? (details)?

I would like to plant a few things with my kid, to see what comes out (sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, beans, peas etc) but I want to make sure the resulting plant is safe and non-toxic. How do I know? Sunflowers are safe, but what about the rest?

Usually if you can eat it like a seed or vegetable it is safe. Your best bet would be to ask your local nursery or gardening plants supplier. I started my kids on things like strawberries and other smaller fruits and they loved it.
