A Lab seems like a perfect pick for you, as long as you aren't looking for a guard dog. But make sure to get an American Lab. American Labs are laid back and quiet family dogs, while English labs are kind of hyperactive.

Any dog is going to have health problems, but a perfect fit EXACTLY is a Bichon Frise, I mean HOW CUTE! They love everyone, are hardy and aren't known to have any health problems, they DO NOT shed! They are very stocky and hardy for a smaller breed and EVERYONE loves that little face! They are SUPER smart too! Bichon's can be left home alone for long periods of time if need be. But if you really don't want a little dog, don't get a lab. As good as people say they are, those dogs shed worse than a Long haired breed! Try a pit bull, they don't shed and are SWEET HEARTS! I would also recommend the Rottweiler. The one we had didn't shed and talk about a genius dog! Good family dogs too, as is the Doberman, but they will need a long walk! They aren't hyper, just need the exercise as that's what makes them happy and healthy. Also a Golden Retriever from a good breeder, won't have bad health problems! Hope I helped, and I am a dog fanatic, so if you have ANY questions, feel free to ask!

I'd be what I am now, a well ol' American combined breed. I'd be severe, have a well paintings ethic, and desire to reside in a well running residence. If I had been stored as only a puppy in a fenced backyard, I'd be digging big holes and barking as a result of the shear boredom of all of it. I'd desire to be taken locations, to be trained new matters, and to look persons. I'd be pleasant however reserved and now not competitive. I'd be very dependable to my loving proprietor and to the my loved ones. My seem could be normal. No extremes, probably a medium or double coat. Much like a go among a spaniel and a shepherd. Color black probably brown with slightly white trim. I'd be pleasant to seem at and fine to contact. I'd problaby weight 50-60#.

A Lab or Retreiver would be a good choice for a first time family dog. However I recommend a visit to an animal rescue shelter for a heart to heart encounter for a choice.
