They do not know which is best or they were referred here from the help pages and do not know how it works.

I sometimes do not select a BEST answer because either my question was not answered sufficiently or I am not sure which answer is the most accurate/true. Also, sometimes I just forget. So, I think that those are the most common reasons. Also, some people may ask too many questions for themselves to keep track of.

I have been trying to select BEST answer today and for some reason, all it did was give that person 1 vote. I thought that the question-asker is supposed to be able to select the answer that they think is best as the final answer. Also, I am neither able to comment nor extend the time. I don't know what's going on.

I have a couple questions that have not had a best answer selected.

All of them are because I forgot them and did not log in for several weeks.

there is no incentive for people to select a best answer, other than "points". It is easier to just put nonsense answers on a few questions instead of keeping track of which questions are in voting.

Sometimes I forget i need to pick BA. Other times I want to vote "No Best Answer" if the answers were crap (ex: the only answer I recieved was a spambot telling me to go to their site), so I would wait it out and get my points back.
