I have a laptop and an iPhone, so I'm not sure if an iPad would really be worth buying. I have a lot of money saved from tips/random change (like a few year's worth), so I could either buy something fun but completely unnecessary (like an iPad), or I could put it toward something practical but completely boring (like an extra month's rent).

My wife has a MacBook, an iPod Nano, an iPod touch, and an iPhone. She uses her iPad as much as any of her other Apple devices

I would suggest that you just wait for the next big thing from apple. It's basically a bigger Iphone that you can actually type on, which is basically a laptop with fewer capabilities just with touch screen. So if you've always wanted a touch screen laptop give the Ipad a try!
