I went to the Grand Canyon recently and dropped in Hopi house looking for a souvenir of anything to do with the reputedly famous Hopi Prophecy Rock. I asked around the shop attendants who didn't know anything of it (even with the aid of a picture from the net). They directed me to the elderly Hopi musicians nearby who also didn't know about the rock. Finally the found a very old Hopi man who told me the rock story was overrated by the internet, and that in Hopi culture it's of little significance.
This is so surprising. You can find thousands of links to the Hopi Rock on the internet, and various documentaries have covered it (like Ancient Astronauts series).
Does anyone REALLY know if the rock story is really meaningful? All the native Hopis I met didn;t think so.

I don't know about the Hopi prophecy rock but I have a similar experience...
The Bermuda triangle. I was in Bermuda a few years ago. Not only did nothing happen but if I made the mistake of mentioning the triangle to Bermuda-ians, I would get a hearty laugh or a roll of the eyes. Basically, nobody there was thinking about it at all. They were all too busy enjoying their beautiful island. Said again, I found nobody in Bermuda that gave the Triangle a passing thought except to think I was an idiot for asking about it.
I think a lot of stuff is like that. People work their imaginations to come up with a good sounding super BS story about some place that's far enough away that few people will ever get there to check it out. That's my theory and I'm sticking with it until I have some good reason to believe otherwise. For example, If I was to go to Area 51 the only thing I would probably notice would be guards around the top security air force base - who would NOT let me it. Gee, how about that?
EDIT: There was a display in Bermuda showing how every single ship that sunk near Bermuda had hit rocks, the rate of disasters was no higher than anywhere else, and how even world wide insurance charges no more for ships entering the Triangle. Guess what? It's all BS. Somethings have happened there but it is not statistically higher than anywhere else. If it was the Insurance Companies would charge more. They don't. And also I have seen, in this Answers "forum" the question: "Have ANY ships made it through Bermuda? How about planes?" People really let their imaginations run wild and then act like its fact.
