30,000 DEAD registered to Vote in North Carolina: Still against Voter ID Laws?

RALEIGH A Raleigh-based group devoted to reducing the potential for voter fraud presented the N.C. Board of Elections on Friday with a list of nearly 30,000 names of dead people statewide who are still registered to vote.

The Voter Integrity Project compiled the list after obtaining death records from the state Department of Public Health from 2002 to March 31 and comparing them to the voter rolls.

“Mainly, what we’re concerned about is the potential [for fraud],” said project director Jay DeLancy. “Since there is no voter ID law in North Carolina, anybody can walk in and claim to be anyone else.”

I wonder who got THESE Votes.....

"In 2009, 261 cases of voter fraud were sent to local district attorney’s offices in the state, the majority of which concluded investigations from the 2008 election, according to a report by the state Board of Elections. Of those cases, 229 involved convicted felons voting.

The "Group" is Voter Integrity Project.. as written above.

EXACTLY..This shows the Government is NOT capable of keeping the voter roles current. hence the need for ID. Dead People don't have ID's .

How many of those "dead" people actually voted is hardly the issue. The fact remains that someone who wants to sneak in a few hundred extra votes for their candidate can easily do so by having people go to different polling places and vote under different names of still registered dead voters. Sometimes a few hundred votes is all it takes to throw an election their way. The solution is to remove those names from the voter lists and require voters to show some valid ID. Why is this such an earth shaking problem for some people.

There are no laws that I know of that require the government agency that issues a death certificate to notify the voter registration board of that person's death - because the location of death might be in a different state that the voter's registration. And executors of estates don't consider notifying a voter registration board that a person has died; there's no penalty for not notifying.

Voter registration has always been a bit sloppy in its record-keeping, people move around a lot and forget they were registered, or don't care to notify themselves.

ID's are irrelevant; counterfeit IDs are the problem, not the voting. But if someone is using a counterfeit ID, who will know ? The voter registration boards don't have photographs of anyone !

That's a data hygiene issue, not a voter fraud issue. Is there evidence that anyone has tried to vote using the names of one of those 30,000 people? No. Have there been such lists in the past? Yes. Did anyone try and vote using one of THOSE names? No.

From the article:

"Most cases of what look like a dead person voting are likely just administrative errors, such as a son named Junior voting in his father’s name instead of his own."

"DeLancy said his group has found evidence to suggest voter fraud in these numbers, but will not quantify how much until he is able to do more analysis. Most cases of what look like a dead person voting are likely just administrative errors, such as a son named Junior voting in his father’s name instead of his own".
Why did you and Rush leave that part out? You should read the whole article rather then just highlight the parts you want.

We should have voter ID laws...I think a lot of people are against them because it prohibits illegal immigrants from voting. Other than that, it shouldn't be difficult for anyone to get identification.
We need ID when at the bank and other things so why not to vote?
