That's pretty accurate, if you or nearly 1/2 of Americans, have employer withheld taxes all year but can write off student loans, interest on mortgage, travel or work expenses, child care deductions, or qualify for EIC(earned income credit) and any/some/all of those add up to more than your federal withholdings (not FICA social security or Medicare) then you are one of the 50% that truly do not pay federal taxes. That's fact! Everyone remembers that $2000 that uncle sam took a little at a time all year, but forgets the $3500. They get back at the end.

He's roughly correct in that a very large percentage of American's don't pay income taxes.. And he is basically correct in saying that many vote Democrat... but that's a misleading statement.
The poor (the group that pays least in.. and in a lot of cases no.. taxes) are centered in two areas; densely packed urban areas (ie: the "bad" part of town) and in rural areas. Cities tend to vote Democrat, rural tend to vote Republican. Since there tend to be more people packed in cities, their numbers are naturally higher there. However, looking at percentage of populations, red states typically have a larger portion of their population paying no taxes. Again, this is because red states tend to have smaller cities and more rural areas.

He did not say that in a campaign speech.. It was a private meeting and yes he did say that those receiving government assistance or those who do not pay taxes are the people who would vote for obama and not be interested in his message.. True.. and if you look at things in perspective obama's saying the same thing in reverse, isn't he?? He's promising the moon to those on government assistance while demonizing the people who work and saying they need to do their fair share when they already do that..Obama is no more going for the vote of those who are against him raising taxes than Romney is going for those who don't pay any..
