Stopping Political Phone Calls?

Yes, I'm an independent voter in a swing state. No, I don't want to answer 4 surveys a day. No, I don't want to listen to another dozen recorded messages from the campaign or from the candidate. No, I'm not donating money to you. No, I don't want to leave what I'm doing to answer the phone only to find it's another request for money, another survey, another recording. No, I don't want to banter with a person supporting a candidate. No, no, no.

Is there any way to get these guys to leave me alone? A political do not call list? Anything?

Alas, I get customers calling on my phone so I can't block unknown callers and I can't not answer. I also have an elderly and ailing parent, so I always answer.

Freedom of speech? It's not free for me; I pay for it. In time, in minutes, in aggravation. In loss of privacy and my time and energy.

I'm on the do-not-call list - shouldn't that at least stop the commercial surveys asking for my opinion so they can profit?

Unfortunately, political phone calls are exempt from the do not call list. I know how frustrating it is. I am an Assistant Supervisor of Elections for my county, and I still get them. As long as it is a political phone call, it does not matter if they can profit from you doing a survey. Political calls are allowed to be made to any and all individuals.

If you have caller ID, check it before answering the phone. If you don't recognize the number, don't pick up.

If you have a cell phone, switch it off when you can't take calls.

If you have a landline, take the phone off the hook while you're busy, or in the middle of lunch or dinner.
