You travel 20.0 mph for 0.500 hour, 40.0 mph for 1.00 hour, 30.0 mph for 0.500 hour, and 50.0 mph for 2.00 hours. What is the total distance traveled?

20mph for 0.5hr
40mph for 1.0hr
30mph for 0.5hr
50mph for 2.0hr

Distance = speed * time
Distance = (20*0.5) + (40*1.0) + (30*0.5) + (50*2.0)
Distance = 10 + 40 + 15 + 100 = 165miles

If velocity = distance / time, then, remodeling that, distance = velocity(time). For the 1st distance: D = s(t) D = 2x(3) <--replace the words and simplify D = 6x <--it rather is the gap for the three hour holiday. For the 2nd distance: D = s(t) D = (x + 20)(2) <--sub in the words... D = 2(x) + 2(20) <--in basic terms slightly of distribution... some simplifying... and D = 2x + 40 Now, for the full distance, we in simple terms upload up the values for D in each section. complete Distance = (distance in 3hr holiday) + (distance in 2hr holiday) complete Distance = (6x) + (2x + 40) <--sub in the two expressions we've been given previously complete Distance = 6x + 2x + 40 <--drop all of the brackets! :) complete Distance = 8x + 40 <--simplify, and there we've it. So, the full distance of your 5-hour holiday is 8x + 40.
