How does the electoral college work?

Please don't say something like "you need a good gpa to get in. I know this is not a real educational institution. Ha, I was just trying to be funny

What I want to know is how much my vote is worth when I vote for president. Is it really worth anything or is it all decided by congress or some other body of politicians called the "electoral college"

If it is decided by government, what then is the purpose of putting the president on the ballot?

Your vote tells another person what you want him to do, though several times in the past, they don't listen. They don't actually have to vote how the majority wants them to vote. Not to say that your vote is worthless, but if they put in a bill right now to end the EC, I'd vote for it. The EC is unfair to each and every American. You should still vote, but your vote would count more if they ended it.
