More info would be helpful. We don't know if you're looking for any murder in 1979 or a specific murder. If it's for a specific murder, then you probably know the victims name. Google that name along with the words "murdered in 1979." If you know the murderer do the same thing, Google the person's name and then add "murderer in 1979." If you want to know about some murders in that year, google "Who was murdered in 1979." go to the newspaper website of the town/city where it happened. Hopefully they have a searchable archive (unfortunately you sometimes have to pay). Go to your local library and see where/how they keep old newspapers--this will usually be free except for copying charges.

If it's a famous murder, there may be a book written on the subject where a lot of facts and research have been pulled together to make a coherent narrative.
