What has happened to our country?

This is too true to be funny. The next time you hear a politician use the word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of its releases.

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.

D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain...let's take a look at New Orleans ...It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D) was asking Congress for 250 BILLION DOLLARS to rebuild New Orleans. Interesting number...
What does it mean?

A. Well .. If you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man, woman and child) you each get $516,528

B. Or... If you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

C. f you are a family of four... you get $2,066,012.

Washington, D.C HELLO!

When you have an economy worth 13 trillion dollars, a billion doesn't look so big. We are talking about much less that a one hundredth of one percent of our total annual economic output. To give you a quick comparison, lets say you make $50,000 a year, are you going to not spend $3 to get a glass of Starbucks on the way to work? That is the scale we are talking about with a billion dollars.

As far as it costing $250 billion to rebuild New Orleans, think of all the things that needed to be repaired or replaced. Roads, schools, hospitals, fire stations, police stations, jails, sewers, water lines, and electric lines all add up.

Wow, this is so far away from reality it's funny.

You realize the money for New Orleans is also to pay for INFRASTRUCTURE, right? Hospitals, levees, underground conduits for electricity, sewer and water lines, rebuild the roads and bridges, etc....

And that stuff ain't cheap.

And how many of those things on your "we didn't have this tax 100 years ago" - didn't exist 100 years ago? It helps if you pay attention.

Suppose you won $16 million in the lottery.

Suppose another 999 people also won $16 million.

PER YEAR

So now one thousand people have a guaranteed income of $16 million per year FOR LIFE.

Now suppose all of you decide to pool all your winnings and give them to the government to pay off the national debt until it's all paid back.

How many years will it take?

ONE THOUSAND YEARS

And that's just the debt we have SO FAR.

Any additional future borrowing is on top of that.

The idle rich minority who own most of " our country " hire accountants to avoid paying taxes-the nuclear and other arms dealers &the armed forces cost numerous times that which we give to the New Orleans emergency repair budget -whose population like us all are required to pay taxes !
