At New Brunswick, buy your ticket from the ticket office or from a ticket vending machine in the station. Fare $13.00 one way
Wait for the train upstairs on the NY/Newark bound platform (if you aren't sure just ask another passenger).
When you get to Newark Penn Station, go downstairs to the concourse (street) level. The Newark Light Rail entrance is next to the McDonald's (inside Newark Penn Station). Go downstairs and buy a ticket from the vending machine - Fare $1.50. Remember to time stamp (validate) the ticket in the in the Validator located near the ticket machine before you get on the Light Rail train. Look for the platform for trains headed to Grove Street. Washington St is 2 stops away.
***Important - the Light Rail ticket must be validated before you get on the Light Rail train. If you don't, then get on the train and a ticket inspector asks to see your ticket and sees it isn't validated you will get a ticket/fine for non-payment of fare.
You can buy your ticket at a machine in the station. There will be signs to tell you what platform to go to. When you get to Newark, you can walk to Washington Street or take the Newark subway, which starts at Newark Penn Station, two stops.
