I'm having Issues with my GMC Jimmy 2001 SLE.?

So, my Jimmy isn't new, and she has about 189,000 miles on her - but she was gift from my mom and I needed a car so hey, I was complaining! Well, that was until recently. My transmission is slipping. I burn through transmission fluid and my Jimmy often won't shift itself into the proper gear unless I let up on the gas and then suddenly push down.

At times, I can't get her to go out of second gear, and she often won't move more then 20 miles an hour. I was told by one person that it is more then likely my transmission senor going, and I'm willing to replace simply that. I just want to make sure that is it.

I know I need a new heating coil and my back brakes replaced, but I have all those parts and can fix that myself (I'm training now to be an auto-tech). My two questions are: 1st- Is it just my transmission senor or has my transmission gone? 2nd - Is this car even worth putting more money into? I just replaced the battery, starter and alternator. I'm not sure if I should keep pouring money into such an old broken up mess.

Thank you kindly for your time!

My blazer had the same problem and it was the transmission control module. But theres alot of things it could be in there but I would start with the electronics. Im pretty sure you could hook it up and see if the tranny throws a code.

well that could be one thing or half dozen of other things ! first if it,s leaking then get the leak stopped first because it can,t work right with it leaking or the transmission filter clogged up ! a 2001 really is not that old but like any vehicle you have to keep at them all the time ! if you don,t want to change transmissions then why not change the fluid and filter and get a good conditioner for it ! i always keep ( trans-medic ) or BG transmission conditioner on hand !
