I have several .357 magnums. They have the highest muzzle velocity and muzzle energy of any handgun until you get to the .44 magnum and larger revolvers. An added plus, .38 special is cheaper to use at the range, and they compare favorably with 9mm in velocity and energy too. Plus, a revolver is less likely to jam.

.357 Magnum.

One shot left, whatever. How about I explain why I'd choose .357 Magnum over 10mm Auto? Yeah? That's okay? Even if it isn't, that's what I'm going to do.

.357 Magnum is relatively easy to feed. In other words, ammo can be found just about anywhere that sells ammo, under normal situations. You can also run .38 Special through it.

10mm Auto? Not so much. Yes, Wal-Mart MAY have it, but not likely.

Both will do the job for self defense, and I personally prefer revolvers for their simplicity of operation and reliability. More available, from a platform that is more reliable... I'll take .357 Magnum, thanks.

.357 magnum, because it is what I have and practice with. I like the 10mm cartridge, but don't happen to have anything chambered in that in my collection. So for one shot would I take something I've never practiced with or a Smith & Wesson 686+ that's got 5,000 rounds of practice through it? The gun with practice every time.

.357, no question.

Besides, the range of options available in .357 is about 20 times higher than the few choices you have in 10mm.
