I have been sick for 6 days with a sore throat. The doctor said it was the flu. A couple of days ago, i started coughing really bad and mucus came up. Recently, there has been blood on the mucus i spit out and my chest hurts from coughing so much. I have been taking Tylenol and Ibuprofen as the doctor instructed. I am kind of worried as i am only 14 and coughing up blood in my mucus. What could it be?

you have broken some tiny blood vessels in your lungs from coughing. you probably need some cough suppressant. Nyquil is great helps with most of the flu's symptoms. Dont worry about the tinges of blood, and the chest hurting are the muscles getting sore from coughing. If you do take nyquil dont take anything else as it has a pain reliever already in it

unless it is a very large amount there is nothing to worry about. Just like the other poster said it was probibly small blood vessels from coughing so hard. it could also be pneumonia. but more likely b lood vessels. I would stop taking the ibuprophen because it is a blood thinner and i dont know how many you have taken and just use the tylenol for pain. just to be on the safe side
