They're all interesting for one reason or another. Lately I've been finding the Dark Ages/Migration Era interesting because of how the era informs us of how fragile and yet resilient civilization can really be sometimes.

Lots of history is fascinating but I'm particularly drawn to ancient cultures and especially archaic and classical Greece, which appealed to me ever since I was a child. One of the reasons is that they are so different from us in their morals, religion and attitude to life. Another is the sheer cleverness of some of the inventions and explanations they came up with.

17th century - lots of changes in many fields and areas, some still directly impacting us today.

The Byzantine empire - fascinating how it survived for so long, and was so successful, despite being surrounded by jealous enemies throughout its existence.
