Visiting Washington, D.C. - Books?

I'm 17 and me and my family are visiting Washington, D.C. this summer; I'd like to enhance my experience when I'm there as much as possible, so aside from brushing up and ameliorating my knowledge of U.S. history, are there any good and informative books that I should read which pertain to general U.S. history, specific events, or even simply Washington, D.C. and its history? All recommendations are appreciated.
