Go to a dog shelter with a good training/adoption program and tell them you're looking for a dog that has lots of energy and loves to be around people. In my experience they can pair you up with exactly the personality you're looking for. They know the dogs that have come in, and they know which ones thrive on lots of activity and which ones just want to live with a quiet 70 year old widow who feeds them cheese all day.

My aunt has a terrier. Her house is always super loud and crazy. She is a business woman so there is always something going on, and the terrier handles it very well. She's very calm and sweet.
