Question about Co-Witnessing Iron Sights W/ a Red Dot.?

If one added a new back up iron sight to a rifle, then added a red dot...would a person sight in the iron sights first then just align the red dot to match the front sight post? Or would one sight in the red dot after having sighted in the iron sights? Just trying to figure out how I should do this. Thanks!

Sight-in which ever is easier first, then get a co-witness view. Line up your iron sites and adjust the other so that that the dot is perfectly aligned with your iron sites when they are lined up. That will get you close. You should fine tune the adjustment by finishing by sighting in on paper.

The two sights and mounts are mutually exclusive and have no common reference point.

You need to sight each one in separatly at the range and adjust them one at a time.

Makes no difference you zero with either then zero the other one into the hole you just shot if you want the same range/ elevation
