How did American intevention eventually end the war in 1918(Schlieffen Plan)

First off, the Schlieffen Plan has nothing to do with America's involvement in the war in 1918.

Second, America's involvement was only part of the puzzle that was the defeat of Germany in WWI. You had the British Naval blockade, a few strikes within Germany that crippled their military and economy, not to mention the fact that the Germans were running out of bodies to throw at the Allies.

However, contrary to what others have answered here, America's involvement WAS a key part in the defeat of Germany. At the time, Britain and France were in almost as bad a sate as Germany, their only advantage being numbers of troops. And as soon as the war on the Russian Front ended after the Russian Revolution, Germany was able to throw extra troops at the Allies. YES, there is reason to believe that Germany still would have lost the war if we hadn't gotten involved (although it is far more likely that a simple truce would have been drawn, with the three fighting powers ending the war neither as victors or losers), but it is NOT TRUE that the war would have ended at the same time. The 1918 offensive by the Germans could still have been repelled, but the British and French, with depleted ranks and tired soldiers, would not have been able to actually push the Germans back.

America's involvement, while not necessarily determining that the war would end, did determine how quickly the war would end. Whoever answered this question by claiming that "all historians agree that the war would have ended in 1918 with Germany's defeat without American support" obviously does not know how history or historiography works. There is no such thing as all historians agreeing on a subject, and to be honest, I have never heard of any historians who think that. I have no doubt that they exist, but it is quite obvious that not all historians agree on the matter. It is very unwise to think that they do.

Schlieffen plan and American intervention are two different things. By 1918 the Russians had pulled out and Germans were not fighting a two front war anyway. Nothing Schlieffen about this. Schlieffen plan was German.

It didn't.

Germany surrendered in 1918 because of the long term effects of the British naval blockade.

Ludendorff, the German army commander at the time, makes this very clear in his memoirs. He states that the purpose of his big offensives in 1918 was to knock Britain out of the war,and thus get the blockade lifted, and the offensives were halted by British and French troops.Once it was clear that the offensives had failed,Ludendorff informed the Kaiser that the war was no longer winnable, and to seek an armistice. As early as 1918,German front line troops had orders to do no more than hold their ground while an armistice was negotiated.

So,WW1 would have ended at the same time, and for the same reasons - the long term effects of the British naval blockade - even if USA had stayed neutral. There are NO academic historians who specialize in WW1 who dispute thuis.

It was virtually over by then, but they arrived, but in time to help the allies beat Germany and the Axis powers

The plan itself was stuffed only a little of a month into the war, so it wasn't such a great plan after all
