Baby-sitting rates for three children?

I accepted a job from Care.com and I was just wondering if I should ask for a higher pay rate.

I am 22 years old with a bachelor's degree in English Education. I will be travelling roughly 25-30 minutes to work for this couple and will be required to drop off and pick up the children at cheerleading practice once a week. I will be watching the children 3 to 4 times a week (never weekends) and will be watching the children for 3 to 4 hours each day I baby-sit. The times will either be from 2pm to 6 pm or 3pm to 6pm, depending on the parents' work schedule. I will be watching three girls age 8, 9, and 12. Currently, I will be paid $9 an hour. Should I be paid more or is this a reasonable amount? I have never baby-sat for money so have no idea what I should expect as far as pay goes.

9$ an hour is what is pretty much what you can expect. You can ask for more, and lots of people do, but most working families can't afford to pay more than that. I've looked for sitters on websites like that and I wouldn't pay anyone more than 9$ an hour because I can't afford it. If I were planning on paying more than that, I would just sign my kids up for daycare. People who go to school for an associates degree in child care in order to work at a daycare make less than 9$/hr a lot of times. I know that because i looked into going to school for it and decided if I were going to put myself into debt getting a career, it wasn't just going to be the 2yr Early childhood Degree because it doesn't pay enough to make school worth it. I've enrolled in the elementary education bachelors degree program instead. It's not fair because care taking is a hard and stressful job, but unfortunately it doesn't pay well.

9 an hour is very reasonable. Press your luck and you can lose the job all together as its a very sought after job by many women these days and most would be glad to take 9 an hour.
