Living in North or South Dakota?

I am interested in moving to one of the Dakotas. What are your opinions on both, if you have ever lived in or visited one of them (or both!)? Coming from a suburb just outside the biggest city in my state, I'm looking for a very small town where everyone knows each other and you can pretty much walk anywhere in town, but the only place worth walking to being a little diner or truck stop.

Know what I mean? I'm a young conservative Pentecostal lady, looking for a different life than what New England has offered me. I'm not afraid of cold weather either, I've been through my fair share of blizzards. While I always say I prefer the heat, who can resist those cold winter days shoveling snow piles and sipping hot coco? I also have heard ND is easy on laws, no state tax, etc.. I like the sounds!

What's it like in ND and SD?

North Dakota has the better economy and is more stable. South Dakota has a slightly better education system... but both are ranked in the top 20. Both are also generally conservative states.

I've visited (briefly) Rapid City and liked it. I also liked Custer, SD when I visited. Never been to ND.
