Walk into cabelas or scheels and ask for a map. They should have them and they are free. Much of the black hills is public and there are coyotes there. They can be tough to hunt though. There is the buffalo gap national grasslands down by Scenic and Wall. Much of that is open to public hunting. There is a lot of BLM land north that is open to public hunting. Many ranchers will allow hunters for coyotes. You are surrounded by opportunity.
Forgot to add. If you are hunting in the grasslands and it starts to rain get your pickup to a gravel road. Some areas are foot travel only but the clay on the roads gets slicker than snot on ice when it gets wet. Also if you get out there you can get up on a hill and have a hard time coming back down. I went up and didn't want to walk back to where i went up. went down a gully. It was wet clay and i couldn't go up and there was a sinkhole below. Managed to get around the sink hole but could have slid in easy. Lucky its usually dry.
Here is a link to areas in SD open for hunting http://gfp.sd.gov/hunting/areas/ Most of the state is private land but as the link shows there are some BLM land and national forest areas. Also its worth a shot to ask ranchers because many of them do allow yote hunting. Ill never forget hunting there one winter the wind and cold went right through ya boy was that cold! And Im living in Alaska in a place thats warmer in the winter than SD!
