For 2 weeks now I've been getting a phone call (practically every day) from a company that "just doesn't sound right". It goes like this .......
You have been selected because you have recently fallen, or know someone who has fallen. You know, for like what you see on television "I've fallen and can't get up". (Notice they don't give name of their product.) You have been approved for a free medallion and free shipping - just Press One to get this service.
This sounded so phony to me from the first phone call > told them I wasn't interested, but they persist. Told them to stop calling me, or I'd report them to the Do Not Call people, but they still persist. Sometimes it's a live person - other times it's a recording.
Sure enough, on the news this morning, there was a warning from Life Alert (a legitimate service) about these phony calls. LA said they do not solicit people by phone. The newscaster warned they get your info and then you are charged $35.00 a month - for no service whatsoever.
Just wanted to give our SCs a heads up. If I'm getting these calls, maybe you are too. Be careful, and just hang up on them.
How do these Scammers sleep at night? Would do anything for money? How would they like it if their parents were fleeced like this.
Just wanted to alert you. Be careful out there! ♥ ♥

These type people are sly and even being on do not calls list with fines scare them because they can be mobile. Get an answering machine and don't answer. My daughter received a odd call on her cell phone when she was in high school and she did not pick up because she did not recognize the number. She typed the number in on google and many people had complaints about this same number. It was some credit card scam, ah-ha she did not even have a credit card at that age. They get in these type scam rings and call like robo or sometime live people, but they call from different places to help stop from being caught. They have even been know to hack phone numbers and call using innocent peoples numbers. Any way they hope enough people take the bait. NEVER, NEVER give out any info what so ever. ''IF your bank, credit union etc. call with ''A PROBLEM'' you go to your bank in person, never deal over the phone. If your home is with an out of state lender. You hang up AND CALL THEM to verify a problem. Here is where you can get help. Any questions you can type in or contact them if you don't see it on the list. Thank you for warning people http://www.usa.gov/topics/consumer/scams-fraud.shtml
I don't have an answerphone or caller ID so I answer the phone every time it rings. If the caller hangs up immediately I answer I dial 1471 which, here in U.K tells me the number of the caller- unless they withheld it. Some scam calls don't withhold the number, they hang up when we answer in hopes that we will ring them back - at our expense - and it's when we get the bill that we have a shock - £30 per minute or part thereof in some cases. I never ring a number back unless it belongs to a family member or a number I recognise as genuine.
Some scam calls are obvious from the way the caller starts their conversation. I just say "No thank you" and hang up. Sometimes as I'm replacing the receiver I hear a voice saying "But you haven't hear me out yet" or words to that effect.
However, we all need to be permanently on our guard because these criminals are improving their technique on a daily basis and some people will fall for their lies.
These scammers DO sleep at night because they have absolutely no conscience.
That one and many other ones. Every now and then, "The FBI has reported a rise in crime---- from a security company! Sometimes I let it drone on until they offer the option to be placed on the do not call list. I have found that doesn't really end the calls.
I defer to the answering machine if I don't know who is calling, and those times when I answer, it is with an unpleasant WHAT?
I also am a senior citizen myself. Next time they call tell them that this call is being recorded see how fast they stay around. or like I do it I use a whistle its a cure all thing that does work ok. Finally if they call again say Frankenmuth Police see how fast they hang up on you. but never fall for these pranks I just laugh at them hang up they get message real fast they never call you back.
