A question for the women?

I woke up and got a big red letter. I wa NOT expecting it, as my first period went by ad I waited and waited and it didn't come so I kinda accepted it. So then I change my panties, and try out my new diva cup. So I checked up on it every few hours, and there is no more blood than what you would find if ou peed then wiped with a tampon inside. What's more, it's brown. But when I take out the div cup, (extremely painful) I find a little more blood. Is the diva cup stopping me from bleeding properly, or did I let it all out when I woke up, or what???

No, your Divacup isn't stopping you from bleeding properly - the blood comes from your uterus, the menstrual cup doesn't block that or effect uterine shedding in any way. There's no need to check every few hours, as long as you have the menstrual cup in correctly no blood would leave your vagina. You're just spotting, either this is the start of your period so there is just a little spotting before you start getting a full flow, or you're experiencing mid-cycle spotting as a result of hormonal changes.

As a note the menstrual cup shouldn't be painful to remove, make sure that you've broken the suction by gripping the base of the cup or inserting your finger between the rim and your vaginal walls, and be sure to relax when removing the cup as if you're tense vaginal muscles tense.
