How long does it take to heal a level 2 sprain on a golden/ lab mix?
My 3.5 year old Golden Retriever/Lab mix sprained her ankle (hock) on her back leg. I took her to her vet as soon as the office opened the following morning. She was diagnosed with a level 2 sprain and given vetprofen 100 mg. every 12 hours for pain. I have been putting a luke warm washcloth around the injury every 3-4 hours for 15 minutes to help with the swelling. It does seem to help! She is a big girl and weighs 101.3 pounds. This issue is being addressed I have changed her treats and no longer give her dog treats. She is given cold cooked green beans and cold cooked carrots for treats now. The carrots are sliced up to prevent her from choking on them. She is starting to lay the injured leg on the floor when she is resting now. She will stand on it to go to the bathroom. She is having difficulty getting from a sitting up position to a standing position we have all hardwood floors so it is slippery. I am wondering how long until she can get back to her mile walks and playing in the hose and her regular activities.
The accident happened outside actually, SHE has lived with hardwood floors her whole life and has never had a problem with them.
I was following the vets instructions with the warm compress, but I will try ice and see if that helps even more.
