Nope. 50 years ago? Maybe. But if you are going to get into a sling shot these days, it's almost a waste of time to start with something that doesn't have a wrist brace, like this:

These allow you to get to something more like a full "draw" on the elastic, get more power out of the slingshot and help with stabilizing your wrist so you can get a consistent anchor on your face, and draw length for consistent flight.
I've killed dozens of cans, cups, starlings, and about anything else growing up with one of these.
