Why are we still waiting for a Wonder Woman movie?

After Superman (7 movies, including the one from the 50s) and Batman (8 movies, including the Adam West one from the 60s), Wonder Woman is probably DC's biggest character. Yet for some reason she hasn't had a movie yet. A TV series (starring Lynda Carter), yes, but nothing on the big screen. One hears occasional murmurs about one, but they never seem to get past the casting stage.

Why is this?

Is it perhaps that Hollywood cannot find a tall, athletic, dark-haired actress to play the part? If so, they can't be trying very hard. The role *requires* such an actress. Wonder Woman is supposed to project Strength and Power first - sex appeal comes much later on the list. You can always pad the costume if necessary. Surely they can find someone impressive enough to wear the Golden Bracers?

What would be worse, and I hope it isn't the real reason, is that Hollywood is still to sexist to properly handle a strong female action hero. To date, almost all the female action hero movies have tanked (Catwoman (2004) is the most egregious example).

I gather that many of you Answerers are much better versed in contemporary popular culture than I am, so I'm tossing this out to you for your thoughts.

~ To be honest most of these superhero films are attended by young males. Most of which are teens. I think that's partly why they don't show too many female super heroes.

I'd love to see Eva Mendes in that role. Wow

You know I agree with you fully, and I think(You're probably going to hate me for saying this if you're a big DC fan) they're waiting for Marvel to do a female heroin movie to see how it goes before trying it themselves. I mean there wasn't really any big discussions about a JL movie until the avengers came out and did so well. I could be wrong, I admit that, but that's really my own conclusion to the matter. Plus add to the fact that the almost TV show got cancel before it even finished filming, and you get a (for some reason) ostracized superhero from the big screen.

@d.d: Yeah that comment was just plain stupid. The top of the box office is infested with comic book movies, and rightfully so. Most are very good movies excluding iron man 3. You have the batman trilogy, avengers, etc.

You watch...they'll cast Gwyneth Paltrow with a dye job, or Jennifer Garner.
Linda Carter will no doubt have a cameo as her Mother. So predictable ;)

GOOD IDEA..I'm sure it will, in time...but I agree that she should have low sex appeal, high intelligence and athletic.

who would you have play the part of wonder woman?

if they got some looking guys to be "bond guys" that fawn over her would be a point that would really sell for women too.
