Obviously it was something that bothered him from the past. He could be giving you a warning that he doesn't tolerate that crap either. It does make a difference if this guy is just a "friend" of yours or an actual "boyfriend".

It means that he thought his ex cheated on him. It seems pretty straight forward to me. What else could you take from that? Don't cheat on him. He is probably a bit insecure from it and doesn't want it to happen again. Men are pretty straightforward, you don't really need to read more in to this.
