How to clean animal mounts?

My husband's den is adjacent to the kitchen. He has 2 deer mounts - 1 white tail and 1 mule deer, a bob cat pelt with head, a turkey fan, several deer antler mounts and a Dahl Ram mount. I use a soft brush attachment on the vacuum cleaner to clean the pelts and wipe the antlers with a damp cloth. Because of the proximity to the kitchen I have noticed that the pelts have a greasy feel to them. Is there any way to clean my husband's prized trophies without damaging them?

Sheep Dog - thanks for replying. I am doing just that. Regular dusting is not a problem. The problem is the proximity to the kitchen and a greasy feeling on the fur.

These mounts have been there for many years. I want to get rid of the unpleasant feel that has resulted from being next to the kitchen. Thanks all.

Contact a local taxidermist.
I bet THEY have a way to clean them without damage.

My father in law has several mounts as well, mainly elk with long shaggy necks. What they use is the wand of the vacuum with a brush on it. Just make sure you brush the hair with the grain, as in top to bottom the way the hair naturally sits. Also a duster works.

I'm not sure if you can get rid of the greasy feel, my dad has a buck mounted in his livin room that feels like that.
It may just have to be washed like you do you hair or something but idk
