Sreenplay: I want to show a newspaper article heading and body, then transition to a computer screen of the sa?

…of the same article.

Also, should the font be different when showing an article being read, because the shot is actually looking at the newspaper?

I currently have it under action with colons like I did here with the title Screenplay. But if skimming the script, you wouldn't know that it was an actual article being shot, not just action.

Question: Do you plan on producing and directing this script yourself? If so, you can write it however you'd like.

But if this is a spec script, one which you hope to sell to a studio or producer, then you should forget about any fancy transitions or camera tricks and stick with straight storytelling. Just write that a character is reading a newspaper headline on a computer screen. Let the director decide if he wants to shoot it as a transition or not. That's his job. To decide how he wants to shoot the script.

You're the writer. Your job is to tell the story as clearly and concisely as you can. As for fonts, 12-point Courier or Courier New only. The thing with new screenwriters is they think they have to dictate every single frame of the script. That's a falsity. You dictate the story. You do your job as the writer and let the director, editor, producer, actor etc. do theirs.

Good luck. :)
