Should the government reclaim the right to issue debt-free money?

A seventeen trillion dollar national debt is outrageous. The interest on that debt is staggering! Shouldn't we evolve past the debt-based privately owned central bank fractional reserve system?

Yes but its not as easy as that, debt is an addiction, far worse than drugs but the people who are more addicted to debt are the people in power

Much of our debt is held by US citizens and US companies.

Defaulting doesn't just hurt foreign govts, it hurts US citizens.
