Is it true that the UK and Germany were each other's largest trade partners prior to World War I?

I'm doing an essay on current US-China relations, and I just want to add a quick little detail about economic interdependence. I read somewhere in an article, probably off of The National Interest, that prior to WWI (or WWII, I don't remember) the UK's and Germany's largest trade partners were each other. Can anyone verify this? As much info as possible is greatly appreciated, thanks much.

before WW1 yes indeed.........(before WW2 Germany's largest partner was France, go figure, 1).........much of the money was royalty payments to Krupp of Essen for their armour plate process ( go figure, 2 ) but also foodstuffs from all over the world carried to Germany in English ships

No, that was actually France, which makes the point even stronger.
Japan's #1 trading partner prior to WWII was the USA.

Both of those examples have been used for the sake of demonstrating how economic considerations cannot fully counter the reasons for war.
