I called Humana for a local sales agent so I could ask a few questions about Medicare Advantage plans. They said there are agents in my county but refused to give me their phone numbers. Why and how do I find one my self? I have searched the internet but most results lead to Humana web site.
Thanks!

Look, Humana is a major carrier. Odds are, any established broker in your area, represents Humana. You are better off finding an independent broker (you can type your zip code in at www.iiaba.net to find a list), and calling them, and asking if they have Humana. You'll also want to make sure they have at least one OTHER insurance carrier, and make sure they've been in business at least five years.
A local person is more helpful than one five states away, because they know which plan is MORE accepted in your area, geographically, and they'll know which plan is most competitive, off the top of their head, in your area. Want to know if the hospital down the street is in network? The guy five states away won't know if there are a lot of problems with that hospital and Humana . . .the local guy WILL.

Check with your state's Depart of Insurance, especially if they have a SHIIP (Senior Health Insurance Info Program). Some of us former Humana agents have dropped them because of their unusual practices. What we were trained to say didn't turn out to be what they actually provide. But if you insist on Humana, make sure that your local doctor accepts them first. If not, then you'll have a problem.
Yeah, you're not really going to find a "humana agent." You just need to find a broker that does Medicare policies. They can show you Humana as well as others.
