New Windows 8.1 won't recognize Sony camera?

I have a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P74 camera. I bought my new computer with Windows 8 on it and found the driver that allowed it to work for that. Then I downloaded the free Windows 8.1 and now when I plug in my camera, I hear the tone from the computer when I turn it on and off but nothing opens. And when I to into Pictures and click on Settings, Change PC settings, Update and Recovery, Check now under Windows Update, it doesn't recognize my camera so doesn't get any drivers for it. It doesn't even "see" my camera there when I have it on.

Help!!

I've already gone to Sony for downloads - not there but referred to Windows Update and not there either. I've since gone to Microsoft to their Chat area and found they don't have a fix for a lot of the Sony cameras with this new Windows 8.1 but another person said to plug in the camera chip directly until they get a fix and that works. I still want to be able to plug in my camera but it doesn't look like there's a way at this time. I was able to download a fix for Windows 8 but not 8.1

Thank you both for answering

Sony's site doesn't have a driver update for Window 8.1. When you scroll for the driver it asks for OS. The choices only go up to Windows 2000.
I'm having the same issue with my DSC F717

You probably need to go to the Sony Website and download the updated drive that works on Windows 8.1
