How do I transfer video from my Canon VIXIA HV40?

Does anyone out there have this camera?

For some reason the video transfer isn't working.

I used SONY VEGAS PRO 9 to do the transfer, from the beginning of the tape, once I click the transfer button, my video starts playing from my camera but not in the computer, the computer doesn't receive any of it.

The tape plays but the computer doesn't receive any footage.

I used a firewire cable to connect my camera to the computer.

At least tell me you want a mac :)

Okay so first I assume you are following the instructions on page 80 and 81 of this manual (or the hardcopy that you have on hand) http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/0/0300002190/01/hv40-n...

Assuming that you have followed that to the T, one would assume that it would work, but I suggest you try it in windows movie maker just for giggles, as perhaps sony vegas is having some trouble. Before doing all this you may want to check under the device manager and see if your firewire interface is being properly recognized by windows / if the drivers for it are properly installed. I know that the firewire 800 ports on my asus motherboard didn't work right out of the box with windows.
