Do these rotors need changing?
Is it time for new pads/rotors up front?
I just rotated my tires and checked my front disc brakes at the time (last changed 3.5 yrs ago by a mechanic) . The pads are all >1/8 inch, but the rotors' surfaces look awful. The surfaces are rust colored, chip away easily with my fingernail or a blunt plastic tool, and look generally corroded. There are areas where it looks like the rust/debris chipped away and the surface is uneven by about 1-2/16ths of an inch. I took no pics at the time. They do not resemble my rear disc brake surfaces in terms of smoothness or rust/corrosion. The rear pads and rotors were replaced 3 months ago.
I'm trying to save money on labor with some simpler auto work and am generally handy with this sort of thing, but I lack the experience of looking at brakes rotors.
Symptomatically, I'm getting no rumbling, grinding, or pulling when I brake, but the time it takes to decelerate seems longer than usual regardless of wetness.
Thank you all.
