DAR Essay Assistance?

So yeah, I'm doing the DAR essay, and I was wondering, could we write it in third person? My essay kind of sounds similar to a story rather than an actual report, is that okay? Answers to any of these questions are appreciated!

I'm pretty sure the topic guidelines said something along the lines of "Pretend you are a child in the American Revolution" or "Write as if you were a child in the American Revolution".

Unless the sponsors specify a style you are free to write your essay in any perspective that pleases you. The narrative (story) style is perfectly legitimate as long as you stick to facts. Third person has a more "academic" feel that makes work sound more scholarly.
